Ondo police arrest robbers, kidnapper, cultists

The Ondo State Police Command has paraded nine armed robbery suspects belonging to different gangs terrorizing citizens in different parts of the state.It also arrested a kidnapper and four members of different secret cults, whose activities have become of security concerns.Parading the suspects in Akure Command, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Isaac Eke, said the suspects robbed their victims of cash, vehicles, laptops, phones and other valuables within Akure and its environs between the period of September and October this year.He noted the arrest of two members of a gang of three, Tosin Boyede, 21 and Fwmi Ojo, 25, who on October 1, rode on a motor bike from Owo to Akure to rob one Jobe Okwechi in his shop at gun point, carting away the sum of N152,000and injured one.He said they were later arrested and had since confessed to the crime and the motor cycle used for the crime was recovered.Also paraded was a suspected kidnapper who was arrested in Benin through the help of service providers after they successfully kidnapped one Ikenna Epueme and collected a N2m ransom from his family.Eke said the ransom was paid without the knowledge of the police, but GoddayGeduro, 35, was arrested on the October 16, and was identified by his victim as the leader of the kidnapping gang.“Investigation is in progress, efforts are on top gear to ensure the arrest of the fleeing members of the kidnapping gang,” Eke said.The command also arrested Sunday Osunmadewa, 30, Samson Balogun, 23, Murtala Olawale, 22 and Imoleayo Akinlami, 28 for their involvement in secret cult activities.Eke said the police had noted the sudden rise in cult activities in the state and was prepared to chase the cultists out of town.A locally made pistol and a dane gun was recovered from the armed robbery suspects, while other items such as laptops, phones motorcycles, vehicles and charms were also recovered from them.
